Microphone & audio — what we do (nothing leaves your device)

All audio testing on SoundTestLab runs inside your browser via the Web Audio API. When you grant microphone access:

  • Audio is analyzed in your browser's memory, frame by frame, and immediately discarded.
  • No audio is transmitted to us or anyone else. There is no server that receives it.
  • Optional recordings (voice recorder, mic playback) exist as local files in your tab only and are deleted when you close the page — unless you download them to your own device.
  • Microphone access ends when you leave the page or stop the test; we request it per-session and never in the background.
  • Shared report links encode readings (numbers like dB values) in the URL itself. We operate no database of test results. Anyone you send a link to can see the readings inside it.
  • Our Permissions-Policy header restricts microphone access to this site's own code — embedded third-party content, including advertising frames, cannot request your microphone.

Advertising & analytics — what third parties collect (separately from the above)

To keep the tools free, we display ads and measure aggregate usage. These partners never receive your audio — their collection is the standard web kind, listed here plainly:

  • Advertising (Google AdSense or a successor network): may use cookies and device identifiers for ad delivery, frequency capping and — where you consent — personalization. In the EEA/UK/Switzerland, ads only run under a Google-certified consent banner where you can refuse personalized ads.
  • Analytics (Google Analytics 4): page views, approximate location (country/city level), device type, and which tools are used. We use it to see which instruments matter — not to identify you.

Your choices

  • Consent banner (EEA/UK/CH): accept or refuse personalized advertising at any time.
  • California residents: we honor “Do Not Sell or Share” signals for ad personalization.
  • Ad blockers work here without breaking the tools — measurements never depend on ad scripts.

Data we hold about you

None, in the ordinary case. We have no accounts, no result database, and no audio storage. Email us and we hold your email thread; that's the list. Local data (preferences) lives in your browser's localStorage under your control.
